Company/Institution: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
Location: New York
Department: Medical Physics
Description: The Department of Medical Physics at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is looking for a full-time, postdoctoral researcher with expertise in computer vision and medical image analysis. The position involves clinical and experimental research in developing advanced visualization and image segmentation methods for use by radiation oncologists applied to radiation therapy treatment planning. MSKCC has an active research program to develop imaging applications that can inform and improve radiation oncology treatment decisions. This is a full-time one-year appointment that will be extended to two years contingent upon successful performance. Selected candidates will have an option to enroll in a two year MSKCC CAMPEP Accredited Residency Program in either Therapeutic Medical Physics or Diagnostic Medical Physics following the completion of the postdoctoral research fellowship. Admission to the residency program is contingent on satisfactory completion of all aspects of postdoctoral research and an appropriate background in advanced physics.
The ideal candidate should have expert knowledge of computer vision, pattern recognition and image processing. A strong proficiency in C++, Python, ITK and visualization tools including VTK is highly desirable. Matlab programming and knowledge of machine learning is a plus. The research will focus on developing user-friendly visualization tools for image segmentation and uncertainty in segmentation to be used by radiation oncologists. The candidate will work closely with medical physics and radiation oncologists in developing the methods applied to head and neck cancers.
The Department of Medical Physics consists of over forty faculty physicists plus support staff working on various physical problems related to diagnosis and therapy for cancer. Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and is recognized as a world leader in clinical cancer care and research.
